The Pitman family (of Mary's Turkeys) offers four Turkey options, their Heritage turkeys are their most premium. Heritage Turkeys are based on the first breed of turkeys that existed in the United States, the Narragansett (the oldest United States turkey variety) and the Bourbon Red. Both were placed on Slow Food's "Ark of Taste" (an international catalog of endangered heritage foods) in 2001. The Pitman family was part of a group of farmers who agreed to raise these special native birds to prevent their disappearance from the American table.
Truly pasture-raised, every bird grows naturally with plenty of open space to grow healthfully in a caring environment. They breed naturally as well as run and fly. These extra activities result in larger thigh meat and slightly less breast meat than found on a typical turkey. They are fed a high protein diet complete with the finest grains and vegetable proteins that provide just the right amount of nutrients for the turkeys to grow bigger and develop better than birds you'll find at the supermarket. All of these traits result in a superior-tasting turkey.
The Pitman family has built its reputation by growing a limited number of Heritage turkeys year after year with a focus on quality & integrity. We also have a very limited number of these special Turkeys available, pre-order yours today before they're gone!
